We’re a few weeks away from December and I can’t wait for the start of Christmas School! It’s my favorite time of year and there’s something so magical about school during the month of December. Since we’re just a few weeks away, I wanted to share our plans for Christmas School this year .
How we do Christmas School
In December, our school days look a little different!
So what’s different?
In December, we set aside all of our loop schedule subjects (History, Science, Geography). We use that time to focus on Christmas activities like baking and arts + crafts instead. Along with this, we lighten our workload with our core subjects. Instead of doing Language Arts and Math everyday, we only choose one subject to do a day. This allows us more time to connect and enjoy the holiday season!
Each year, I usually find a Christmas guide for us to follow and guide us throughout the month. We’ve done a lot of fun ones in the past. Some of our favorites were:
- Come to the Manger: A Christ-Centered Christmas Guide from Brighter Day Press
- Slow Down Christmas by A Year of Learning
- The Peaceful Press: Christmas Guide Volume 1
Unfortunately, this year Christmas School is going to be harder for us to fit into our schedule. We’re going on a Disney cruise in the middle of the month (we’re so excited!). With our trip, we won’t be able to complete a month long Christmas school unit so our plans this year are going to be very SIMPLE! I picked a few things for us to use this year that will be magical and meaningful, and I think we’re all going to love them!
Here’s what we’ll be doing for Christmas School this year.
2025 Christmas School Plans
- Unit Study: Symbols of the Season. I’m really excited to do this with the boys this year. This is a simple unit study (just what we need!) that focuses on common Christmas symbols and how they relate back to Jesus. It pairs with the book, See Christ in Christmas by Melissa Sunday. For each symbol, kids will complete an art project. At the end they will have completed 12 symbols that will be formed into a large dodecahedron (a 12-sided geometric shape)! I think we are really going to enjoy this and it’s a great way to remind kids the true meaning of the season.

- Bible Advent. We’ll be using The Advent Storybook: 25 Bible Stories Showing Why Jesus Came this year for our bible reading. We read this advent book last year and we really enjoyed it! It’s easy to fit into morning time and there’s even a coloring book that goes with it! You can find the coloring book here.
- Read Aloud. We read lots of Christmas picture books during Christmas time. Every year, I pick one chapter book for us to read aloud together. This year, we’ll be reading Heartwood Hotel: The Greatest Gift by Kallie George. This is a super cute series about a hotel for woodland creatures. The Greatest Gift is the second book in the series. All the animals have come to the hotel to hibernate and celebrate their St. Slumber celebration. I think this will be the perfect book for us to cozy up with at Christmas time! This is a book from our Brave Writer curriculum, so it will count as our Language Arts reading too! The Literature single for this book can be found here.
We’ll also be reading lots of picture books from our book stack all month long!

- Activities. I love scaling back on our school workload, so we can have more time to craft and create memories together! This time of year, I load up on arts and crafts supplies. Some of my favorite things we’ve done in the past:
- Paint by Sticker Books
- Christmas Perler Beads
- Snowman Clay
- Scissor Skills Activity book
- Watercolor Class (We love the ones from Brighter Day Press)
- Painting ornaments
- felting

That’s it! If you have any questions, feel free to drop them below!
